Our story

In January 2020 I was asked to build a small side table from some scrap metal and off-cuts of wood we happened to have laying around in the garage, being proud of what I made a few photos went online and the seeds of Dorset Design Works were sown. 

Richard, coming from an agricultural family always had the skills to make and mend, then mixed with Hannah and her degree in Furniture Design it felt like something should happen. So we set about designing a range of furniture with the Modern Industrial look using as many reclaimed products as possible. Move forward to 2023 as i'm writing this, the style has developed and skills learnt to enable us to create some truly amazing pieces, and with the success and growth of the business we have had to move house (to find a bigger workshop) 

In August of 2023, we launched the Jurassic Range, focusing on the beauty of natural wood with all of its character and natural imperfections, only using other products alongside to enhance the natural features and make beautiful pieces of furniture that can sit proudly in your home for years to come.

What we believe sets us apart from many other furniture companies is that everything you see is made by us. Richard makes all of the steel framework himself, and having the ability to weld alongside woodwork really makes this the ultimate bespoke experience as any piece of furniture can be tailored to your needs. Combine these practical skills with Hannah's years of experience designing pieces not just for DDW but also for many high end brands, we believe we can design and make something for anyone.
